On March 7, 2025, Stand Up For Science organized a demonstration in downtown Raleigh to protest massive funding and personnel cuts in the U.S. scientific research ecosystem. Liberty Arts, a Durham-based arts education center and makers space, hosted an open studio on July 18, 2026. Attendees were invited to try pottery and flamework and to browse works made by resident artists. Fluid Community opened on May 16 with an event that was attended by dozens of supporters and several art, craft, and food vendors. Their location is about a block away from Trosa, a large thrift store in North Durham.
